Carbonate Development Geologist

LOCATION

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the President and works closely with the Company’s landman and engineers.

SCOPE

The Geologist will be responsible for including the proper geologic understanding into all of the company’s reservoir management, field extension, enhanced recovery and acquisition opportunities. The analysis will include stratigraphic controls, seismic review, structural elements and integration of appropriate geologic data to fully define and understand the fields.  The emphasis is on developing drillable locations that can be added to the ongoing drilling program.  

SPECIFIC DUTIES

The Development Geologist will be responsible for the following:

•    Conducting geological studies for depositional environment, trend analysis, play development, regional setting and location generation.
•    Utilizing workstation based Petra and PetraSeis and related software, perform well log analysis, cross section construction, and geologic (structure, net pay and facies) mapping.
•    Provide geological analysis to assist in evaluating waterflood and enhanced recovery performance.
•    Provide geological analysis to assist in understanding oil/water contacts and field limits.
•    Conduct core studies integrating SCAL analysis.
•    Assisting with producing property acquisitions to identify development and/or exploration potential.
•    Developing and maintaining key contacts within the oil and gas industry to keep abreast of current trends and new opportunities.
•    Staying current with trend developments and technological advances; including workstation.
•    Basin Analysis and geochemistry screening.


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

The final candidate must possess a degree in geology, an advanced degree preferred, with a minimum of fifteen years of experience.  The Geologist must have extensive practical and technical experience in petroleum exploitation in the West Texas region, preferably within the San Andres and/or Glorieta.  Ideally, the successful candidate’s career will include experience with a major integrated oil company and subsequent experience with a mid-size or smaller independent.  The finalist will be able to document a record of using interpretive skills to be a strong team player resulting in reserve additions and field performance improvements. The right individual will have demonstrated a high level of seismic expertise in his/her career along with a good understanding of producing and exploration operations.

The Development Geologist will be a bright, energetic, detail-oriented, and articulate individual with a reputation of integrity, maturity and sound business judgment.  This individual must be a self-starter, a disciplined and organized person with the ability to translate ideas into action-oriented recommendations.  Career efforts and an excellent reputation will have provided him/her with the ability to develop a network of industry contacts.

In summary, the Geologist will become an integral team member by taking an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to field studies, geologic analysis and reserve additions that will build value for the company over the next several years.
