REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Chief Geophysicist and will interface with other members of the technical staff and company management.
SCOPE
The Geophysicist will work with a technical team and on an individual basis to identify, generate and evaluate high quality exploration prospects in multiple basins and geologic settings.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Specifically, the Geophysicist will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- Generating prospects and plays, primarily using geophysical data, but also being able to fully integrate all the pertinent geological data.
- Where geophysical data is lacking, the ability to use and analyze geologic data for play & prospect definition and analysis.
- Working as a team with geology and engineering to develop technical analyses that are internally consistent, solid and defendable across all 3 disciples for company projects
- Analyzing all types of geophysical data, including potential field data where appropriate
- Presentation of work to company management in support of business decisions
- Presentation of work and arguing project merits using solid technical analysis to potential partners in support of obtaining new partners in business ventures.
- Presentation of work and arguing project merits with solid technical analysis to existing partners in support of company objectives in joint venture settings.
- Working and thinking independently to develop new play & prospect ideas to present to company management and technical staff for consideration as new business opportunities
- Utilizing workstation based geophysical & geological software for data interpretation
- Synthetic generation, seismic modeling, AVO modeling and attribute analysis in support of play & prospect generation and analysis.
- Working with contactors to oversee data processing and data acquisition projects to ensure the best techniques are being applied to solve the specific problem at hand
- Screening outside submittals and preparing recommendations
- Staying current with trend developments and technological advances
- Preparing seismic budgets, schedules, write ups and geophysical AFE’s
- Performing other duties as needed or assigned to meet objectives of the company.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should possess a degree in Geophysics or Geology, with an advanced degree being highly desirable. All candidates must have 5-10 years of industry experience, with some work experience at a major corporation and an emphasis of time spent on exploration.
The Geophysicist must have extensive practical and technical experience in petroleum exploration in a variety of basins domestically or internationally. Candidates should feel comfortable working in a wide range of play types – extensional, compressional, stratigraphic and resource. Candidates should also feel comfortable working with both 2D and 3D seismic data, as well as potential field data where applicable. The successful candidate will be able to document a record of play and prospect generation with associated drilling success within areas of responsibility.
The right individual will be capable of fully integrating geophysical data with the associated geological data as needed to properly evaluate exploration opportunities using a variety of software tools. The successful individual will need to be able to work on multiple projects concurrently in a team environment, as well as work independently to create new business opportunities, depending on the situation. This individual will need to possess very good communication skills to make effective technical presentations and recommendations to company management, partners and potential partners.
